“UNISSUED DIPLOMAS” is a global exhibition honoring the memory of 40 Ukrainian students who will never receive their diplomas because their lives were cut short by the large-scale Russian invasion that began on February 24, 2022
They used to spend their days in classrooms. They had their favorite subjects, as well as those they dreaded every week. And how they dreaded even the thought of failing their final exam.
But after February 24, 2022, everything changed. Classrooms turned into bomb shelters and battlefields. Fear shifted its focus, and courage prevailed.
Now, some of those diplomas will never be issued. Because russia took the lives of their future holders in its attempt to seize Ukraine’s freedom.
No, the large-scale invasion by russian troops has claimed the lives of a greater number of students, as, since February 24, 2022, more than 6,000 civilians and 13,000 military personnel have reportedly been killed. The exact number of students among them is unknown, as the death toll continues to rise every day.
